Smiling Face Film Project

Still from Film No.5 by Yoko Ono, 'SMILE' starring John Lennon

In 1967, Yoko Ono said: “My ultimate goal in film-making is to make a film which includes a smiling face snap of every single human being in the world.”

How did she intend to do this, you ask?   “…I cannot go around the whole world and take the shots myself.  I need cooperation from something like the post offices of the world.  If anybody would drop a snapshot of themselves and their families to the post office of their own, or allow themselves to be photographed by the nearest photographic studio, this would be soon accomplished.”

Fast forward to 2011.  Social media has made it easy for us to connect with people around the world and share our ideas and experiences.   Yoko Ono’s once ambitious project now seems more attainable than ever!

In fact, Smiling Face Film has moved to Flickr and people from across the globe are uploading smiling photos of themselves.  What a creative way to spread happiness around the world!
